After hearing the many detox benefits from a friend who has been doing it for 9 years last year I detoxed during a whole week drinking a mixture of lemon juice, cayenne pepper and maple syrup. Seeing how it helped reinvigorate my body I’m more convinced than ever that detoxing your body from time to time is necessary to reload and clean what might be causing diseases, fatigue and break outs. See it as a Spring and Fall cleansing for your body.
Detoxing with lemon water might seem like an impossible challenge for many but incorporating it into your beauty routine isn’t. Numerous natural beauty products make it easy for us to detox through our skin which is our largest organ. If your pores aren’t clogged by ingredients such as mineral oils it can naturally release what isn’t of use for you but if it isn’t, think of incorporating the following beauty detox tips in your daily routine.
1. Morning Detox
Once we start eating and drinking in the morning our intestines get right back to work. You can make it hard on them by eating processed foods or you can give them a gentle kick start up by drinking lemon water, tea or diluted apple cider vinegar. Why are these drinks good for detoxing?
Drinking lukewarm lemon water helps you boost your immune system thanks to the high levels of vitamin C in lemons. It’s detoxing benefits help flush out unwanted materials, freshen your breath and help relieve respiratory problems. It’s also one of the most alkaline foods out there and drinking it helps you reduce your body’s overall acidity which is caused by eating processed foods. The vitamin C helps decrease wrinkles and blemishes and let’s face it, what woman doesn’t want clear skin??
Yogi tea has ‘detox with lemon tea’ including lemon, dandelion, licorice and lemon peel. This detoxing blend stimulates the liver (dandelion), works as a mild laxative (licorice) and cleanses your bowels (lemon). Plus it has a cute little detail with an inspirational quote on the bag which reminds me of a fortune cookie. I’m a sucker for inspirational quotes so this surely helps to start my day on a positive note.
Apple Cider Vinegar:
I know what you might be thinking: ‘I’m not drinking this in the morning!’ Although it takes some getting used to, and the honey makes it easier!, there are tons of reasons why drinking apple cider vinegar in the morning is good for you. To name a few:
- It helps regulate blood pressure and reduce bad cholesterol
- helps to remove toxins from the body at a faster rate
- It can help clear up skin conditions and blemishes
- There is limited scientific support that claims that apple cider vinegar can promote weight loss.
2. Drink More Water
Although drinking more water might be a given I find it hard to drink the necessary amount everyday. If you’re the same knowing why it’s good for you might help motivate you to drink more water:
- Drinking Water Helps Maintain the Balance of Body Fluids
- Water Help Control Calories
- Water Helps Keep Skin Looking Good
- Water Helps Your Kidneys
- Water Helps Maintain Normal Bowel Function
Removing dead cells prevents break outs, ensures a healthy circulation of the skin and natural glow. Scrubbing is beneficial for both your face and body and is recommended 1-2 a week so your skin can continue to absorb the nutritious elements of your moisturizer or oils. Unfortunately a lot of scrubs use plastic beads to ensure your skin gets scrubbed. The Weleda Birch Body scrub on the other hand uses wax beads which give your skin a gentle scrub. Recommended once a week this shower scrub stimulates your circulation, diminishes cellulite while moisturizing your skin.
4. Clay Masks
When it comes to detoxing your skin nothing beats a natural clay mask. I’ve been using it for years under many forms and it still works perfectly to cleanse and purify my skin. Boots released a Botanics Ionic Clay Mask Shine Away which removes impurities and cleanses. The cleansing is gently without being too drying leaving your skin cleansed and moisturized at the same time.
5. Dry Brushing
I recently started dry brushing after reading the benefits of it on Pinterest. It eliminates cellulite, cleanses the lymphatic structure, eliminates dead skin coatings, makes the immune system stronger, stimulates the hormone and oil producing glands, tightens the skin to prevent aging, makes the quality of your muscles better, stimulates circulation, aids digestion and is the simplest and cheapest way to rejuvenate your skin. What more could a girl want? Although it’s still too soon for me to confirm all of the dry brushing benefits I will continue to see what it delivers as it’s easy and cheap to incorporate it into my beauty detox routine. Make sure to choose a brush with natural hair and wash it twice a week with shampoo. Don’t limited the dry brushing to your legs only as your whole body can benefit from its rejuvenating effect!
6. Detox Baths using Baking Soda, Apple Cider Vinegar, Ginger, Salts
Salt baths have been used for years for its detoxing and purifying qualities. Bathing is one of my favorite things to do and adding a detox element to it from time to time, definitely help your body to release all of those unwanted toxins. I spotted a detox bath recipe on Pinterest so decided to give it a try. Adding a handful of Dr Organic Dead Sea Mineral bath salts (or sea salt), half a cup of apple cider vinegar, a couple of pieces of ginger and 1 table spoon of baking soda my detox bath was ready for me to soak in it.
What are the benefits of this detoxing bath?
I’m not a big believer of skin care. For one 90% of my family has great skin and doesn’t use any skin care products. 2. Skin care only makes up a fourth of why your skin can look great, the others being good alimentation, happy attitude and genes and 3. I’m not comfortable using products of which I can hardly read the ingredients. For years I’ve been using olive oil in my daily skin care routine and recently I switched to argan oil. Oils ensure a gentle cleansing of the skin while moisturizing it plus it’s almost similar to the sebum your skin produces when you’re sweating so using a product that is close to what my body already produces feels more natural to me. The fact that your skin can still breath and release toxins when needed also makes all the difference!
None of these beauty detoxing tips will work if you continue to use beauty products which will clog your pores and therefore inhibit them from releasing toxins. Try avoiding these skin clogging ingredients!
