We’ve all heard the expression “Money can’t buy happiness” but in his research Michael Norton shares how money can, indeed buy happiness….when you spend it on others. When I buy something for myself I feel happy but it only lasts for a while before I’m hit with the urge to buy something else to feel that buyer’s kick. I also love buying things for others and especially my mum It makes me feel good that even a little present can make her so happy and that feeling lasts much longer.
Although I agree for the most part with Michael there needs to be a balance. Don’t spend your money only on yourself but don’t ‘waste’ it merely on others either. I don’t think either options would make you happy but a combination will. The best part is also when you get to receive from others, who share their time (and money) with you because they love you It’s all about giving and receiving.
If you had 5 EUR to spend today on someone, what would you buy and for who?
